This week for Thankful Thursday, we want to thank VSA’s Focused Interest Groups (also known as FIGs) – their organizers and participants.

VSA FIGs are sub-groups of VSA and are open to all current members. Currently we have four groups that provide forums for sharing and cultivating common VSA member interests.

We are grateful for the recent efforts these groups have taken to foster learning and virtually connect their members.

  • The Bridging Communities FIG supports VSA’s initiative to support diversity in the field by focusing on diversity and inclusion in visitor studies, and cultural competence in evaluation and audience research.
  • The Data Visualization and Reporting FIG focuses on effective communication of results and visualizing data to support its use.
  • The Zoo and Aquarium FIG brings together a community of professionals who are interested in, and who contribute to, social science/audience research and evaluation in zoos, aquariums, nature centers, and other organizations that focus on living collections.
  • The Art Museums FIG is dedicated to providing a forum for communication, learning, mutual support, and professional development for evaluators, researchers, educators, and others working with or in art museums and arts-based cultural institutions.

Your support of the VSA’s year-end giving campaign allows us to continue to offer these valuable educational programs to our members.

Here are some ways you can support us during our giving campaign:

  • Donate directly at our website.

  • Make a voluntary donation when registering for web chats.

  • If you’re shopping on Amazon, visit smile.amazon.com and designate the Visitor Studies Association as your chosen charity. Each time you shop using the smile.amazon.com portal or by enabling it on the app, Amazon will donate a portion of your purchase to VSA.

  • Renew your membership, become a member if you aren’t one yet and encourage your colleagues to join.

Your gift will allow us to continue providing our members with these valuable benefits:

  • High-quality professional development for practitioners at all levels through our year-round online learning experiences.

  • Annual conferences that build knowledge, skills and organizational capacity. We are currently planning a robust virtual conference to be held in July 2021.

  • Student scholarships that enable emerging professionals the opportunity to participate in VSA’s annual conference.

  • Support for the Visitor Studies journal, which advances the theory and methods of our field.

  • The VSA Listserv as an opportunity to communicate and connect with colleagues.

On this Thankful Thursday and every day, we thank you for your support!
